Angel-Marie Carson MS, CCC-SLP
I have been practicing for 25 years as a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist dedicated to ethically empowering patients to communicate effectively and be heard, regardless of their chosen modality. With extensive leadership experience, I have served as a clinic director and supervising therapist, overseeing multiple assistants under my license and mentoring university interns. I currently work as a clinical supervisor for a clinic in California and hold active licensure in both California and Florida.
At forty-one, I was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent a six-hour surgery to remove a tumor from my frontal lobe. The procedure resulted in significant cognitive challenges, including mutism—a Speech Therapist who could no longer speak.
This life-altering experience highlighted the need for a speech therapist’s ethical stance as stated by ASHA; “Communication is a HUMAN RIGHT”.
Ms. Carson also delivers speaking engagements centered on her lived experience, advocating for communication in all available modalities. She has presented at the graduate level at universities including the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Florida State University (FSU), promoting dignity and personhood for nonverbal patients through respectful, inclusive communication practices informed by her personal experience.
